This is the most common type of printing. Like Spot Colour Printing it involves transferring ink from a "plate", onto paper or card. The plate is fixed to a drum within the press. As the drum revolves the image on the pate collects ink which is then forced against the paper as it moves through the machine. You need 1 plate for each colour you wish to have printed.
"Full colour" or "Process" printing usually involves 4 plates which print a layer of Cyan, Magenta, Yellow and finally Black ink (CMYK for short). Building up these colours in different strengths allows printers to reproduce photographs and other multi-colour images.
This printing process is used to produce all the full colour products you see everyday, like magazines, newspapers, packaging etc. |
